Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening (or bleaching) is one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments today; it is one of the most commonly requested services by our patients. Tooth Whitening can change the colour of one’s teeth by several shades. Even subtle changes in tooth colour can take years off a person’s appearance.

Factors such as aging, staining from certain foods and drinks, smoking and the effects of some medications contribute to the darkening of natural teeth.

When used under the supervision and instruction of the dental team tooth bleaching is safe and does not harm the teeth or gums. Bleaching is not a permanent solution to changing the shade of one’s teeth. It may require touch-up applications to maintain the desired shade. These touch-up intervals like the initial treatment will depend on the individual patient’s situation.

Permanent Tooth Whitening will provide longer lasting more predictable results than bleaching. To read more about Permanent Tooth Whitening check our sections on Bonding, Crowns, Porcelain Veneers and Smile Design.

Take Home Tooth Whitening

Also available from Square One Dental is dentist supervised “take home” tooth whitening. We have found it to be an effective form of tooth whitening and our patients report that the system is easy to use and requires a minimal time commitment to obtain their desired results.

The "take home" bleaching process involves the fabrication of a custom fit bleaching tray made specifically to fit the patient’s mouth. A small amount of bleaching solution is placed in the tray. When the tray is placed in the mouth the solution comes in contact with the teeth and causes oxidization of the stains, the result being brighter whiter teeth.
