Dental Implants
Dental Implants are a predictable method for replacing missing teeth. Some of the reasons for considering an implant are:
- Implants look, feel and function like natural teeth
- Implants help to preserve remaining bone levels
- Remove the necessity for grinding down adjacent teeth for bridge placement
- Implants are stronger than bridges and increase the lifespan of adjacent teeth
Procedure
The first step involves placing the dental implant (titanium fixture) into the area of the missing tooth using a gentle surgical procedure with local anesthetic. A temporary tooth is then placed over this area.
The bone around the implant forms a strong bond through the healing process, which may take from three to six months. Once this bony integration has occurred the next step is the fabrication of the permanent crown.
